Advanced Drawing

Some drawings from life. Decided to ditch the messy, digital innards of my bedroom and go for a walk up the park.

Charcoal drawing. A cell shaded approach inspired by video games and graphic novels.

Thumbnails exploring the abstract qualities of television/film. In particular, the first episode of The Walking Dead. I noticed a lot of artistic expression in the direction - of course, most of the scenes are almost identical in content and camera angles to the Graphic Novel equivalent. As a fan of TWD, it's really  heartwarming to see such a close resemblance to the original.

My interpretation of a cigarette and smoke. One late night I found myself outside having a cigarette in the dead, windless night and in the thin lamp light I noticed the patterns the smoke was making, trailing in a spiral that widened as the smoke drifted away and I immediately went back inside to draw what I'd seen. It was beautiful in a way, despite the source of the inspiration of course. I don't smoke now, and I only did for a few weeks (just saying).

Tattoo style illustration of a woman. I don't do enough little projects. Once I'm finished at my job, I'll have more time for personal projects and experiments like this.

Children's Book - Joe & Arty Comic

I've included the finals from my children's book because I feel that location and observational drawing has helped me a lot in this module. Not necessarily directly; for instance, the locations aren't real, but indirectly. Observational drawing has helped me understand more about perspectives, foreshortening and anatomy, and this project is a good example of my improved expressive drawings.

Drawing below is single line. Gives a sketchy look in a way without the "hairy" appearance of typical sketches.

Bottom half of picture below is single line drawing. The effect it gives is rather abstract, adds character to a normal drawing

First Blog Update

This is the start of my Advanced Drawing blog documenting my work and progress. I intend on improving, and having it all here I hope will demonstrate this.
